Holidays in North Tuscany, Italy

Tavernelle is located in Lunigiana, the most northern region of Tuscany. A village redolent of the past, its’ doors bearing the insignia of the tradesmen of centuries long ago, when the charcoal-burners plied their trade in the surrounding chestnut forests, and the merchants making passage from La Spezia to Pisa paid their dues in the Colombera restaurant.

The village is now a tranquil holiday location, close to the mountains, the coast and the renaissance wonders of Florence, Siena and Lucca.

The 60sq kilometres of surrounding forest provides some of the best trekking in northern Italy; comfortable refuges are available at higher levels, and the ski lifts provide summer access to the high paths, or sentieri above Lagestrello.

Village life, people working in the ‘ ortos’, the ubiquitous vegetable gardens that typify ‘La vita del contadino’ sounds of conversation from the fields, the whinny of horses… All these factors, and many more add to an experience of life that is fast disappearing, but is yet to be found at Casa Giulia.
